The BH-BL Girls Basketball Club is a non-profit organization, established to offer girls grades 2 to 8 residing in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District, the opportunity to play basketball. Our entire organization is run by parents of girls in the club in partnership with the school basketball coaches.
What do we do?
The club offers recreation/camp style basketball called Spartan Junior for basketball introduction. Spartan Junior is run by the school basketball coaches. It is a great introduction to basketball. We also put together youth basketball teams to play in the Capital District Girls Basketball League (CDGBL). These teams are for girls looking to learn team basketball and development skills to potentially one day play for a school team when they are older. This is a 100% local league. There is no traveling on long trips. Each team practices 2 times a week at O’Rourke Middle School, Stevens, Pashley, or Charlton Heights. All home games are played at O’Rourke Middle School and away games are played in local gyms such as Niskayuna, Saratoga, Scotia, or Ballston Spa. The CDGBL season runs from October to February.
No experience needed!
If your daughter is interested in playing basketball, this is the perfect age to play. Every girl has no experience or very little if they have already played a year or two with us. We are not looking for great basketball players. We are looking for great girls we can turn into great basketball players.
Sports are not easy and there is a lot of competition at the older levels. Now, at the elementary and early middle school years, is the best time to try a sport. When girls reach the age to play for the school teams, it’s nearly impossible for players with no experience to make a team. Our program’s purpose is to develop basketball skills at the younger ages to prepare them for the school teams when they are older.
Why have your daughter play on our teams?
– Being on a team is great for building new friendships.
– Builds self-confidence and social skills that carry to all areas of your daughter’s life.
– Teaches the value of working together towards a common goal.
– Easy way to stay physically active during the winter months when kids cannot get outside.
– Your daughter gets to wear the maroon and white and represent the outstanding BH-BL community.
– It’s fun!
What is the club’s focus?
Our focus is on the players. We want to provide an environment for the girls to enjoy
the game of basketball and help them develop as players. We are not focused on wins and losses in CDGBL games. Everyone likes to win, but it’s not more important than developing the players at this young age. If the players enjoy playing basketball and work with our coaches to develop their skills, the wins will come.
How does my daughter join the club?
It’s very simple. Register for either Spartan Junior recreation basketball or register to attend a player evaluation to be placed on a CDGBL team. Spartan Junior registration is typically open from October until Spartan Junior starts in December. Opportunities to register for placement on one of our CDGBL teams runs in September.
What is the cost?
Cost is outlined in the registration area. When registration is open, estimated cost will be list on the first page.
If you are a new player or returning player needing a new uniform, they cost is around $80 for jersey and shorts. The uniform is yours to keep.
